Antique, officially referred to as the Province of Antique ([ɐnˈtike]; Kinaray-a: Kapuoran kang Antique; Hiligaynon: Kapuoran sang Antique; Tagalog: Lalawigan ng Antique), is a province located in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. The provincial capital is San Jose de Buenavista, which is also the most populous town in Antique. This province is situated on the western part of Panay Island and shares its boundaries with Aklan, Capiz, and Iloilo to the east, while facing the Sulu Sea to the west.
Antique is home to the indigenous Iraynun-Bukidnon community, who speak a dialect of the Kinaray-a language. They are known for creating the only rice terrace clusters in the Visayas region, using their indigenous knowledge and local skills. These rice terraces are divided into four main clusters: General Fullon rice terraces, Lublub rice terraces, Bakiang rice terraces, and San Agustin rice terraces. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts and scholars from the University of the Philippines have conducted research on these rice terrace clusters. Efforts have been made to nominate the Iraynun-Bukidnon Rice Terraces and the Central Panay Mountain Range for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
