It is a province located on the island of Mindoro within the Mimaropa region in Luzon, situated approximately 140 kilometers (87 miles) southwest of Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Oriental Mindoro shares its borders with various neighboring areas: to the north, it is bordered by the Verde Island Passage and the rest of Batangas; to the east, it is bordered by Marinduque, Maestre de Campo Island (also known as Sibale, with its official name as Concepcion), Tablas Strait, and the rest of Romblon; to the south, it is adjacent to Semirara Island and the rest of the Caluya Islands in Antique; and to the west, it is bordered by Occidental Mindoro. Calapan, which is the only city on the island, serves as both the provincial capital and the regional center of Mimaropa.
